News: November-December 2019

Dear Friends and Family,

Thinking of you at this time of year, with lots of news...

I am happy to report that the Murano Honey Garden, the Honeybees and the Glass Masters in Murano are all ok after the devastating Acqua Alta this past week in Venice. The glass factory had damages and the garden suffered soil erosion and downed trees. Thankfully no one was hurt. We will need to purchase more soil and plants before Spring to restore it.

We had an excellent year and we were able to harvest 80 kilos of Murano Honey in September, always leaving another 80 kilos for the bees to get through the season.

The Gritti Palace in Venice ordered 100 jars to serve to their guests at the breakfast buffet. Some jars are available at Edmond à Venise.

This year also marked the 6th Annual Honey Garden Picnic in Murano, on Saturday September 14th, and was a big success.

I wrote, illustrated and published a book titled “The Mysterious Traveling Honeybees of Venice.” Original watercolors and glass works are on view at Edmond à Venise gallery, presented for The Venice Glass Week, 2019.

2020 UPCOMING NEWS: I am currently preparing a large exhibition for the Venice Biennale of Architecture exhibition at Il Magazzino Gallery at Palazzo Pollignac.

Opening May 21, 2020 and titled, Night and Day: Bats + Bees

The exhibition includes built and installed functioning Bat Houses designed and executed with Architects in Venice. There will be 24 unique Murano glass Bats and 24 Bat Houses at the exhibition - symbolizing the 24 hour work day of the Bats and Bees.
My goal is to further the awareness through art and conversation of the only flying mammals who:
  • Are an endangered species
  • Eat up to 3000 mosquitoes per night, each
  • Live up to 30 years, and have 1 baby per year
  • Are suffering a colony collapse disorder due to pesticides, loss of habitat and fear. The same as the plight of the Honeybees.
The one of a kind Murano glass Bats are $2500, each + shipping

Unique, handmade and functional Bat Houses are starting at $500, each + shipping
