Venice Glass Week - September 13 - 21, 2025
Special Event in the Murano Honey Garden: Saturday, September 20th, 12:00-3:00pm. Giorgio Giuman Glass Factory, Sacca Serenella, Murano
POLLINATOR BOAT celebrates handmade Murano glass, indigenous fruits and vegetables, plants and flowers grown in the Laguna di Venezia and surrounding islands along with the species that pollinate them.
The boat made from repurposed shipping pallets and paper-mache, represents sustainability, ingenuity and flexibility of artists and mother nature. The inspiration for the Pollinator Boat are the floating market boats at San Barnaba and Via Garibaldi selling fruit and vegetables in the canal were they sit. In Venice, Italy, the tradition of selling fresh produce from boats is a charming and practical aspect of local life. These floating markets, or "fruit boats," are integral to the city's unique culture, where canals serve as the primary thoroughfares.
The Pollinator Boat will be exhibited in the Giorgio Giuman glass factory adjacent to the pollinator garden. The Murano Honey Garden provides habitat and food sources for pollinators including bees, butterflies and other insects. The goal is to enhance the natural environment, support the ecosystem and bring awareness to endangered species including Murano glass masters.
